About Us:
Mark Batka:
Mark is a level 3 certified coach. Mark was not one of the most talented skaters,
but his heart and competitive nature made up for it. Mark competed in singles and pairs
and he also went to many National Championships at the Novice, Junior, and senior level
in both categories as well as Internationals.
Like his big sister Mark also participated in a wide variety of sports from ballet to hockey.
He was in the National Ballet of Canada for many years before giving it up for skating.
He did all types of dance as well from ballet to hip hop. Mark also was and still is a
hockey goalie which is still one of his passions.
Mark graduated from York University in Kinesiology and Health Sciences at York University.
He now uses his knowledge from school to help with his coaching, as well as his off-ice training.
He works to keep his students healthy and fit. Strengthening is also a way he likes to prevent
injuries that could occur.
Mark has a goal to one day reach the World and Olympic level of competition.
Jana Batka:
Jana is a level 3 certified coach with parts of her level 4 completed.
She was a great skater in her past with her strengths being power and strength.
Jana went to many National Championships in Novice, Junior and Senior Ladies.
She also competed internationally. She was someone that participated in every sport,
on top of her skating career. She was very good at any sport she tried but was
exceptional in soccer and track and field. She did receive a full paid scholarship
to attend university in the US but declined because of her passion for the figure skating.
Jana also participated in many dance classes from ballet to cardio funk classes.
She did receive a wide range of different types of dance and movement classes which
helps her with her choreography today.
Jana’s goal has always been to make it to the Olympics, and it still stands
today as she hopes one day she will be able to help her students reach the
top and compete at the games.
She also is great with young children. She has great techniques to keep children
interested and having fun.
