Physical fitness is an essential part of life in general and a critical part of any sport. The ability to move and produce power and strength or flexibility in lines is not only used in sport but also in everyday life. Understanding the purpose of specific exercises and having knowledge of proper technique are key aspects in improving overall ability and performance. Off-ice conditioning serves not only to increase physical abilities, including strength, power, flexibility and body awareness but also to build confidence, improve self-esteem, keep you healthy, and, most importantly for athletes, prevent injury.
On Ice Training
"We work every aspect of skating from basic skating including":
Stroking and edges
Field movements
Spinning
Jumps
We put great emphasis on developing each skater's ability to help them become a well-packaged skater. The basis for becoming a great skater begins with the ability to balance and maneuver well along the ice in different directions and positions. Whether you are competitive or skate just for the love of the sport, having an understanding of how you move and control a variety of forces that influence your skating is always important in reaching your goals as skater.
Choreography
Our programs are designed by blending a wide variety of skating elements to create art on ice. We work with a
wide range of music and select pieces that are suitable to each individual's specific skating style. Whether you
have selected your own music or are open to suggestions, we will design a program that showcases your strengths and
includes the components judges expect to see.
Fitness Testing
Twice a year all of Batka Elite skaters are required to take a fitness test. This test allows the coaches to evaluate their
skaters fitness level and track improvements as well as key areas of concern. Fitness tests are held at York University testing facility spring and fall.
